The proposed development of new Kingston University building on the Town House site at Penrhyn Road, Kingston Upon Thames.
The 6 storey university building consists of an insitu reinforced concreteframe arranged on a 6m x 15.1m maximum orthogonal grid. Reinforced concrete columns and beams are set on grid and support either RCribbed slabs or RC flat slabs depending on the spans and the use of the spaces. An external precast concrete colonnade encloses the building and provides external terraces and circulation corridors plus circulation stairs.
The internal layout is characterised by internal atrium space to the west and double height areas for special teaching facilities. A number of reinforced concrete circulation cores are distributed at the corners of the building and provide lateral stability to the frame.
