WHITECHAPEL
The proposed development involves the demolition of a number of existing buildings and construction of the 12 new residential buidlings located close to Whitechapel Road in East London. The existing site consists of residential mixed-use buildings and educational buildings. Above ground, the preferred structural solution was quickly established as being a reinforced concrete frame utilising RC Columns, RC shear walls used for stability and post-tensioned slabs. In order to accommodate changes to column grids in some areas the transfer structures were required. These are generally designed as RC or pre-fabricated steel beams. Substructure has been designed as RC frame supported on Piled foundations and Raft slab.
